UniWBS Cube

Each time I create or review any Project Management topics I manage it like a new mind came with new or elaborate my existing ideas, here a new idea of How to structure your project schedule meet the identified expectations of key stakeholders.

Three Sides/Directions /Levels to organize project’s Deliverables/SOW to ensure schedule layout’ structure reflect what you need to monitoring and measure project progress, instead of unmeaning WBS unable to reshape its structure to provide PM/RE with informed data to present it in dashboards or/and regular reports.

Level - Facility Breakdown Structure

All construction projects for any types of Facility (School, Hospital, Airport, Government Offices, Residential tower, House, industrial building) shared in all attributes to convert from Project to Facility which is universal work breakdown structure uniWBS with 3*3 sub-levels:

  • Setup The Premise
  • Provide Services
  • Construct The Facility

Under those level it easy to create the suitable tasks from next level – EPC of trade.

Level - EPC Resources

All the Trades materialized to deliver the Project share in the same attributes from engineering works to submit/approve trade material/shop drawings/technical sheets to allow main Contractor to procure it and subcontract/supply it to deliver to site then to construct/install/erect/allocate it, to know the story is here, which EPC level are:

  • (E) for Engineering,
  • (P) for Procurement and
  • (C) for Construction,

you have to assign EPC to schedule’s activities as dummy non-labour resources which will by a KPI to measure the progress percentage based of its effort.

Level - Project Categories

Although all facilities shared of the same construction attributes but each facility have unique project, though you have to design this level with consideration of the project’s characters from its business-need to expectation of key Stakeholders, you might be create categories from user fields, those categories contain elements such:

  • Zones, Area (FOH/BOH front/back of house),
  • Location (Basement, Ground, Typical floors)
  • Criteria (New, Incomplete, Maintain works) or Phases , Stages.
